Jim Koford

Sponsored Rider

Current Residence:
Winston-Salem, NC

Biography:

Originally from Pennsylvania, Jim grew up riding in Pony Club, eventing, dressage, hunters, and equitation. He initially wasn't looking for a career in horses and went to college at Wake Forest University (NC) and got a job in advertising at Equus magazine. Thanks to a horse named Art Deco, Jim got the push he needed to pursue riding full time. He has personally taken countless horses to the Grand Prix and trained and worked abroad in Germany with Michael Klimke. His talent alone is not what makes Jim so good at what he does, but it's the love and bonds he shares with his horses. He is renowned for taking some of the most difficult and unconventional horses up the FEI levels.

Top Accomplishments:

Jim is a Grand Prix Dressage rider and trainer as well as a USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist. He is a five-time winner at the U.S. Dressage Finals, twice at Grand Prix, twice at the Grand Prix Freestyle, and Prix St. Georges. Favorite BioStar Product:

"I've used BioStar products with all of my Grand Prix horses through the years. For Adiah, they makes a great product called Star Power EQ. For instance, today we are getting both super high heat and high humidity [in Wellington]. She is three-quarters Friesian and she struggles with her breathing when it's this hot. Her cardiovascular system is not efficient at cooling her, so I feel a lot more comfortable knowing that I have a product that actually helps her with stamina, endurance and recovery."

Allison Kavey

Sponsored Rider

Website:

Current Residence:
Millbrook, NY, USA

Biography:

Allison Kavey is a CDI Grand Prix rider who enjoys bringing horses up the level from breaking through the FEI. She started riding at the age of four in LaFayette, NY after her mother said she could have lessons if she washed her face without complaining for a year. She rode ponies and Morgans in dressage, hunt seat equitation, and eventing. While studying at Cornell University, she largely turned her attention to dressage. She represented region 8 at the NAYRC in 1997 and 1998 on Dorian, a horse she could afford because of his bolting problem and late flying changes. She went on to bring the Trakehner Elessar, a 6 year old horse she broke herself, through the FEI, though a torn deep digital flexor tendon ended his career before he could compete at the Grand Prix. Allison has competed several horses through the Grand Prix, including Andrea Woodner's QueBa HM, Gabrielle Heertje's Amidala, and Andrea Woodner's Citha's Utopia.

Top Accomplishments:

Competition accomplishments with those horses include reserve champion for the GP Freestyle for region 8 with QueBa in 2016, Medium tour high score athlete at CDI Saugerties with Amidala in 2016, and reserve champion for the I2 with Citha's Utopia in 2020, 1st and 2nd at GDF CDIs at medium tour in 2021, and medium tour high score athlete at CDI Devon in 2021.  Utopia qualified for USDF dressage finals in 2020 and 2021 in the I2, the GP, and the GP FS.  Allison is currently producing her next group of international horses, starting with Andrea Woodner's Hortelano LXXXV, Cara Kettenbach's GOV Wohlstadt 121, the 2019 KWPN Otis Redding, and Patchouli ISF. The next decade should be an exciting one!

Testimonial:

"I am proud to feed Ligatend EQ, which combines the best whole food ingredients in the world to

support soft tissue and repair damage from daily training. This combination of

ingredients keeps my horses strong and prepared to do their work. In the past, Ligatend has also helped to reduced the amount of time required to rehabilitate soft tissue injuries.

Circuvate EQ is also a critical component in keeping my horses working, improving their

recovery time, and allowing them to make remarkably efficient training progress.
Thera Calm EQ
is the third product on which my horses depend. The stresses of competition are real and unavoidable, and the ability to control cortisol production keeps my horses’ stomachs healthy. During horse shows, I often feed TheraCalm in the morning and at night.

The final part of my daily BioStar formula is Sunn-E 1000, which is the most bioavailable form of vitamin E on the market. The horses’ muscles thrive on this excellent product.

At competitions, I always carry Alixir EQ paste for rehydration. It is also excellent for helping horses who have been sick—either with a virus or bacterial infection—recover more quickly.

Finally, Tri-Gard EQ paste supports horses who feel competition anxiety in their guts and keeps them happy and healthy every time they go down the centerline."

"I love my horses. To me, their health and happiness is paramount. After feeding processed feeds for years and enduring all the stomach issues that go along with them, with Tigger's helped I switched my horses to a whole food diet. I am constantly blown away by the BioStar US products and Tigger's desire to improve ALL horse's lives and not just meet the bottom line like other major manufacturers. Horses were never meant to eat processed foods and I truly believe the metabolic issues, stomach issues and lameness issues we see in our horses today are a largely a result of being fed the wrong grain and the wrong supplements. Optimum GIOptimum EQ 2.0, Bio Flora EQ, Gold Star, Tum Ease, and Chia Seeds.

Testimonial:

“All my horses and most of the boarder horses are on a whole food diet with Optimum EQ and Chia Seeds. They are all sound, happy, healthy and ready to work . When new horses come to the barn, it is amazing to see how they transform when they shift to the whole food diet. Their feet are healthier, and their coats are more vibrant and shiny. All the horses become more consistent in their training and are more alert without being stressed. They eat more hay and keep good weight. Tigger has helped me learn about how to see the horses for who they are and how to follow my intuition about each one. Optimum EQ 2.0 is their essential feed, and the organic hay we grow. The whole food diet is like a supplement we can add to get the results we need: weight, energy, stamina. My horses will never go without Biostar products and a whole food diet.”

Anna Hallene

Trainer

Website:

Current Residence:
Maple Park, IL

Biography:

Born and raised in the Chicago, IL area, Anna’s riding career started like many others - with a pony ride.  A barn rat from day one, Anna was exposed to all facets of the industry at a young age. In 2011, Anna was a National Finalist in the USHJA Emerging Athletes program, earning the reserve championship and a coveted spot in the USEF Horsemastership Training Series. This further fueled a passion for pursuing a career in the equestrian industry.  After a successful Amateur Owner Jumper career while attending college, Anna began her professional career shortly before graduation.  Since then, she has continued to further her own career while also training clients to success in their own divisions.

Top Accomplishments:

In 2020, Anna started her own business, Glenwood Farm, where she focuses on sourcing, developing, and selling quality horses as well as providing a high value experience for clients in her program. She has continued to compete in the open jumper and National Grand Prix classes while coaching her clients to success in all three rings.  Anna prides herself in offering a holistic approach to high-level equine athlete management - combining a whole food diet and supplementation with proactive and regenerative medicine and tailored fitness regiments to get the most out of each individual horse.

Favorite BioStar Products:

Optimum JS 2.0 is my favorite all-over wellness supplement for our equine athletes.  I like that it has ingredients that target both joint health and gut health as well as minerals that are lacking from many horses’ diets nowadays, but so important for overall health and for keeping inflammation at bay.  Most of our sport horses are on this supplement.  After they’ve been on the Optimum JS for a little bit of time, I notice that they come out of their stalls looser in a regular basis, and that their recovery times after competition are decreased.  The horses’ coats and toplines also look fantastic, which I feel is a true reflection of their health from the inside out.
